Job Description

Technical Expert - Geology Modeler

Location:

Columbus, MT

Schedule:

5-2-4-3 9 hour workdays

The Geologic Modeler plays a key technical and leadership role in developing and maintaining high‑quality 3D geological models that support resource definition, mine planning, and operational decision‑making in an underground narrow‑vein environment. This position ensures that geological interpretations-driven by face‑scale observations, mapping, and diamond‑drill data-provide accurate guidance for grade control, ore/waste discrimination, and long‑ and short‑range planning.

Working closely with geology, engineering, and data collection teams, the Geologic Modeler champions best‑practice methods for modeling structurally complex, narrow vein systems and continuously enhances the organization's understanding of orebody geometry, continuity, and grade distribution.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Contribute to process improvement for grade control, reconciliation, and geological knowledge transfer.
  • Promote and model a strong safety culture in all underground and office‑based activities.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies while proactively identifying operational hazards.
  • Deliver timely updates to grade control models by incorporating:
    • Daily underground face maps and geological observations
    • Channel/face sampling data
    • Underground diamond‑drill core results
  • Develop and maintain modeling standards tailored to narrow‑vein, structurally controlled deposits.
  • Apply and refine best‑practice methods for domaining, vein interpretation, structural modeling, and grade interpolation.
  • Provide clear, accurate geological models that support:
    • Short‑term mine planning
    • Ore/waste discrimination
    • Maximizing ore recovery and minimizing dilution and deletion
  • Work closely with mine geologists and engineers to reconcile planned vs. actual development and production outcomes.
  • Integrate drilling, mapping, and production reconciliation results to progressively improve model performance.
  • Collaborate with mine geology, resource geology, and engineering teams to prioritize modeling tasks according to operational needs.
  • Offer training and mentorship in modeling workflows, vein interpretation, and domaining methodologies.
  • Communicate modeling progress, risks, and opportunities to technical leaders and operational stakeholders.
  • Support the resource/reserve team with long‑range modeling, data QA/QC, and geological risk identification.
  • Drive innovation in modeling techniques specific to narrow‑vein systems, including structural controls, vein continuity assessment, and grade variability.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong proficiency with geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog Geo, Vulcan preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting structurally complex vein systems using underground mapping and diamond‑drill data.
  • Effective collaborator with strong communication skills across multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Adaptable, forward thinking, and comfortable working in fast-paced underground operational settings.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in underground production geology, narrow‑vein operations, grade control, or exploration (preferred).
