The Safety & Security Manager at Career Systems Development Corporation Careers plays a key leadership role in creating and maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment for young adults participating in residential education and Job Corps training programs. Working within the Safety, Security & Law Enforcement department and embedded in an education and training setting, the Safety & Security Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of comprehensive safety and security programs on campus. This includes overseeing daily security operations, coordinating campus patrols, managing access control systems, and ensuring prompt, professional response to incidents in dormitories, classrooms, recreational spaces, and surrounding grounds. The manager leads risk assessment and prevention efforts, conducting regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards or vulnerabilities and recommending corrective actions. They develop, maintain, and enforce safety and security policies and procedures in alignment with Job Corps requirements, CSD standards, and applicable regulations such as OSHA and local codes. The role also includes leading emergency preparedness initiatives, designing and delivering emergency response plans, coordinating drills, and serving as a primary liaison with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services. In keeping with CSD’s supportive, diverse, and growth-oriented culture, the Safety & Security Manager works collaboratively with academic instructors, residential advisors, counseling staff, and administrators to integrate safety considerations into daily programming. The manager helps ensure that safety practices reinforce positive youth development, respect, and inclusion, and that students understand their roles in maintaining a safe community. They may collaborate with instructional staff to provide educational sessions on topics such as personal safety, conflict de-escalation, emergency response, and responsible behavior on campus. This role supervises safety and security personnel, providing clear direction, coaching, and performance feedback. The Safety & Security Manager is responsible for scheduling, training, and professional development of the security team to support a 24/7 residential environment. The manager fosters a culture of accountability, professionalism, and customer service, ensuring that interactions with students are consistent with the educational and mentoring mission of CSD’s Job Corps centers. The Safety & Security Manager oversees incident reporting processes, ensuring that all safety and security incidents, including injuries, misconduct, property loss, and policy violations, are documented accurately and in a timely manner. The manager investigates incidents, gathers statements and evidence where appropriate, and prepares thorough written reports, identifying root causes and recommending preventive measures. They also track key metrics and trends related to safety and security, preparing regular reports for center leadership and corporate stakeholders to support continuous improvement. In addition, the Safety & Security Manager manages and coordinates the use and maintenance of security technologies, including CCTV systems, alarms, and access control equipment. They work with vendors and internal support teams to ensure that systems are functional, up to date, and aligned with program needs and privacy requirements. The manager may assist with budgeting and resource planning related to safety and security operations, ensuring that staffing levels, training needs, and equipment are appropriately supported. This position is well suited for an experienced safety or security professional who brings strong judgment, integrity, and the ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure. The ideal candidate has prior leadership experience in safety, security, or law enforcement, preferably in an educational, residential, or youth-focused environment, and is comfortable working directly with young adults from diverse backgrounds. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to collaborate across departments and build trust with students and staff. While not a teaching position, the Safety & Security Manager directly contributes to the broader educational mission of CSD by creating the conditions under which learning and growth can occur.
