Provide orientation and mobility (O&M) services aligned with IEP goals to promote student independence and participation in educational programs. Conduct activity/environmental analyses to identify barriers limiting student access and participation. Develop measurable, attainable, and relevant goals and objectives with benchmarks for students. Teach travel skills, orientation strategies, and mobility techniques to students with visual impairments. Provide training in the use of mobility devices, including canes, and teach transportation and navigation skills. Collaborate with teachers, families, and staff to explain O&M services and support educational integration. Implement positive behavioral interventions and supports, teaching functional skills (communication, self-regulation, socialization, independence). Maintain accurate records, submit timely documentation, and comply with district and MSP reporting requirements.
Ohio State Board of Education Pupil Services license as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. National ACVREP Certification (or documentation of completion). Knowledge of O&M strategies, assistive devices, and educational best practices for students with visual impairments. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Commitment to high-performance standards and maintaining confidentiality. Satisfactory fingerprinting and criminal records check results (provided for free by MCESC!).
